The Marian Coffin Gardens at Gibraltar are free public gardens in Wilmington, Delaware, designed in 1916 by pioneering landscape architect Marian Cruger Coffin. Considered the most intact surviving example of her work, the gardens are a remarkable combination of formal garden rooms, classical statues, fountains, sweeping lawns, and natural beauty.

Originally part of the historic Gibraltar Estate, the gardens have welcomed generations of visitors. Today, they remain free and open to the public year-round, offering a place to explore, relax, appreciate history, and enjoy the changing seasons.

The gardens are a living landscape, where historic preservation meets modern horticulture and ecological stewardship. Ongoing restoration efforts honor Coffin's original designs while addressing the challenges of caring for a century-old garden.

From restoring historic features and managing invasive plants to introducing native species and welcoming volunteers, the work continues throughout the gardens.

Owned and managed by Preservation Delaware, the gardens are cared for with the help of dedicated volunteers, community partners, grants, and generous donors.
